What is a thumb deformity?

Polydactyly of the thumb is a congenital deformity of the hand, which is usually related to genetic factors and environmental factors.

1. Genetic

factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of polydactyly. At present, it has been confirmed that the genes associated with polydactyly include HOX, SHH, Gli-3, etc. Mutation or abnormal expression of these genes may lead to abnormal differentiation of fingers during embryonic development.

2. Environmental factors
