Diabetic retinopathy is usually divided into non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy is divided into mild, moderate and severe three stages, mainly characterized by retinal microangiomas, bleeding and exudation. Proliferation diabetic retinopathy is mainly characterized by retinal neovascularization, which is very fragile, easy to bleed, and may lead to serious consequences such as retinal detachment.
