Amblyopia, commonly referred to as "amblyopia" or "lazy eye," is a developmental disorder of vision.
Amblyopia occurs in childhood or adolescence when vision in one eye (and sometimes both eyes) does not develop normally and does not achieve normal visual clarity even with glasses or contact lenses. Amblyopia is usually not caused by an eye disease, but by some abnormality or imbalance in the development of the visual system, such as strabismus, refractive errors, or large differences in vision between the eyes. If left untreated, amblyopia may lead to permanent vision loss.
