What causes toxic megacolon?

Toxic megacolon may be related to inflammatory bowel disease, infectious enteritis and inducing factors.

1. Toxic megacolon in inflammatory bowel disease

may be related to inflammatory bowel disease. Inflammation invades the submucosa of the human body and develops into the muscularis and serosa layer, destroying cells in the human body, thus causing toxic megacolon.

2. Infectious enteritis

bacteria, viruses or parasites invade the body and destroy the intestinal mucosal epithelial barrier, leading to cell necrosis, water electrolyte disorder, causing colitis reaction, and further development of the disease leading to toxic megacolon.

3. Predisposing factors The

use of drugs that inhibit gastric motility, anticholinergic drugs or Arctic enema and other factors may induce toxic megacolon.
