What is the probability of sympathetic ophthalmia?

There is no clear figure for the incidence of sympathetic ophthalmia, generally less than 1%.

Sympathetic ophthalmia usually occurs after penetrating eye injury or internal eye surgery. If the patient has penetrating eye injury, the incidence of sympathetic ophthalmia is about 0.9%, and most often occurs within one year of eye trauma. Secondly, the incidence of sympathetic ophthalmia after internal eye surgery is about 0.07%, which is very rare.

Note that patients with sympathetic ophthalmia should promptly follow the doctor's advice to use cefixime, prednisone, cyclophosphamide and other drugs. If necessary, surgery should be taken.
