What is viral herpetic keratitis

Viral herpetic keratitis is an infectious keratopathy caused by herpes virus infection.

Viral herpetic keratitis may be associated with herpes zoster virus, herpes simplex virus infection, excessive eye exposure, sun exposure, fever, or glucocorticoid use. After infection, patients may develop eye pain, photophobia, tears, limbal congestion, foreign body sensation, etc.

Patients can be treated with acyclovir, valciclovir, or ganciclovir under the guidance of a doctor to control the infection. If the condition is severe, patients can undergo surgery, such as corneal transplantation.
