1. Total bilirubin

is the sum of direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin. In cholestasis, direct bilirubin is

formed by bilirubin combining with glucuronic acid in liver cells. Cholestasis will cause direct bilirubin to be unable to be smoothly excreted with bile, resulting in an increase in its concentration. The increase in direct bilirubin is usually earlier than that of total bilirubin, which is a sensitive indicator of cholestasis jaundice.

3. Cholic

acid is the main component of bilirubin and plays an important role in maintaining fat digestion in the body. Cholestatic patients may not be able to smoothly discharge bile acid, resulting in an increase in its concentration in the blood.
