How does a proctoscope work?

Passionate about making a difference.
The proctoscopy procedure usually involves maintaining a good posture, inserting the examination tube, and observing the local conditions.
1. Maintaining a good posture The
patient is required to assume a lateral position under the guidance of a professional doctor and bend the knee toward the chest to help the doctor operate.
2. Inserting the examination tube The
doctor uses a soft, flexible tube called a proctoscope to insert the rectum. The examination instrument has a light source and a camera that transmits images to a monitoring screen.
3. Observing the local conditions The
doctor slowly advances the proctoscope into the rectum and sigmoid colon while carefully observing the intestinal wall. Air or liquid may be injected to dilate the intestine, and specialized tools are used to sample or remove abnormal tissue.
