What does serum total bile acid high mean?

Building bridges to better health.
High serum total bile acid refers to the high concentration of total bile acid in serum, which may be caused by physiological factors, and may also be related to hepatitis, gallstones and other diseases.
1. Physiological factors
Eating in a short time before examination will stimulate bile acid secretion, and transient serum total bile acid elevation may occur, which is a normal phenomenon.
2. Hepatitis
refers to inflammation caused by virus, bacterial infection or other factors in the liver, which will damage liver cells and affect their metabolic function, thus causing serum total bile acid elevation.
3. Cholelithiasis
is a solid substance formed in the gallbladder or bile duct. Due to gallstones blocking the bile duct, it will hinder the normal flow of bile and cause serum total bile acid index to rise.
