Patients with pleural effusion may experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. They should be admitted to hospital for antibiotics and diuretics as prescribed. If the pleural effusion is large, they can also be admitted for pleural puncture drainage and intercostal tube drainage.
