Amoebic liver abscess is generally not purulent inflammation.
Amoebic liver abscess is different from purulent inflammation in the true sense. Amoebic liver abscess is caused by histolytic amoeba invading the liver. Purulent inflammation is generally caused by pathogenic bacteria, such as streptococci and Escherichia coli. Amoebic liver abscess will produce pus, which accumulates in the liver to form abscess, but the main lesion is liquefied necrosis of liver tissue. Pyogenic inflammation has more exudate than amebic liver abscess, and may be accompanied by tissue necrosis, but tissue necrosis is not the main lesion.
