Normal umbilical cord has three blood vessels, one umbilical vein, two umbilical arteries, if the umbilical cord has only one artery, it is called single umbilical artery. Most cases are found in prenatal ultrasound. If there is a single umbilical artery when doing four-dimensional ultrasound, if it is only a single umbilical artery, there is no other fetal structural abnormality. The fetus is generally a good prognosis, can be observed, and does not need special treatment. However, if there are abnormalities in other ultrasound structures besides a single umbilical artery, it is possible that the fetus has chromosomal abnormalities or other abnormalities, so in this case, further prenatal diagnosis is required, that is, amniocentesis.
