Neonatal anemia If the venous hemoglobin within two weeks of birth is less than 130g/L, or the capillary hemoglobin is less than 145g/L, then anemia can be diagnosed. Mild neonatal anemia can be treated with iron supplements. If anemia is severe, blood transfusion may be needed.
