What does HPV 16 mean?

Healing hearts, healing lives.
HPV16 positive indicates HPV infection in the cervix, which is a risk factor for precancerous lesions of the cervix. HPV16 or 18 positive suggests colposcopy, which determines whether cervical biopsy is needed. Cervical pathology is the gold standard for diagnosing cervical lesions, because cervical cancer is a preventable and treatable disease and its onset has stages, so cervical cancer screening is particularly important. For women older than 30 years old, double screening of TCT and HPV is recommended. If the double screening result is negative, repeat the examination after 3-5 years. For women younger than 30 years old, it is recommended to check TCT alone. If the TCT test result is negative, repeat the examination after an interval of 3 years.
