White foamy sputum in late pneumonia

White frothy sputum in pneumonia patients does not indicate that pneumonia itself is worsening; under normal circumstances, if the patient's cough and purulent sputum persist, it often indicates that pneumonia is not under control, but if white sputum is present, it normally indicates that pneumonia is gradually decreasing.
