Can sputum culture detect tuberculosis

Restoring health, one step at a time.
Sputum culture may or may not detect tuberculosis. Because tuberculosis patients are present, there may be sputum excretion, that is, mycobacterium tuberculosis may or may not be present in sputum. If mycobacterium tuberculosis is present in sputum culture, it may be cultured, and if mycobacterium tuberculosis is cultured, it can be definitely diagnosed. If there is no Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the sputum, it cannot be cultured, but the absence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis does not completely rule out the possibility of tuberculosis. Therefore, the diagnosis of tuberculosis often requires a comprehensive judgment based on the history, signs and relevant examinations. If necessary, diagnostic anti-tuberculosis treatment may be considered. Needle biopsy may also be considered.
