Dentin sensitivity occurs because the dentin of the tooth is exposed, so external stimuli stimulate the tooth, causing abnormal flow of fluid in the dentin tubules, resulting in dentin sensitivity. Therefore, tooth decay, cervical wedge defects, severe wear and tear, and obvious periodontal disease may cause dentin exposure, resulting in dentin sensitivity. When teeth are stimulated by foods that are too cold, too hot, too acidic, or too sweet, they exhibit dentin hypersensitivity symptoms, showing transient, intense pain responses.
