Chronic kidney disease is generally divided into five stages, which are generally divided according to glomerular filtration rate, of which chronic kidney disease stage I usually refers to glomerular filtration rate greater than 90 ml per minute, chronic kidney disease stage II usually refers to glomerular filtration rate between 60 and 89 ml per minute, chronic kidney disease stage III usually refers to glomerular filtration rate between 30 and 59 ml per minute, and chronic kidney disease stage IV usually refers to glomerular filtration rate between 15 and 29 ml per minute. If the glomerular filtration rate is less than 15 ml, it is called stage five of chronic kidney disease, also known as uremia.
