Can cough cause heart disease

Cough itself does not cause heart disease, but some diseases that cause cough may cause heart disease.

Cough is a common respiratory symptom, mainly due to the body's reflex defense action to clear the respiratory tract secretions or foreign bodies into the airway. Heart disease is caused by structural damage or abnormal function of the heart, but cough itself does not cause such conditions, so it does not cause heart disease. However, if it is a cough caused by lung infection or other respiratory tract infection, myocarditis may be caused when the infection is more severe, and if not treated in time, it may further develop into serious heart disease.
