Eosinophilic granuloma of bone is treatable. A single lesion involving the vertebral body and diaphysis tends to heal. Significant compression fractures may also heal in situ and are normally treated nonoperatively. Small lesions may also be treated with slow intralesional injection of prednisone, including confirmed recurrent and secondary lesions. Other lesions may be treated with curettage and bone grafting, and recurrence is rare. For non-functional areas of bone involvement, removal of lesions of the drum, i.e. ribs and fibula, or radiation therapy or postoperative radiation therapy may be performed for spinal vertebrae that are difficult to remove.
