Hyperhomocysteinemia is a disease characterized by elevated homocysteine in the blood.
Hyperhomocysteinemia may be associated with aging, smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking a lot of coffee, taking antiepileptic drugs, hypothyroidism, psoriasis, acute myocardial infarction and other factors. The disease itself usually does not cause any symptoms in adults, but in children there may be pale skin, fatigue, tingling sensation in the hands and feet, dizziness and other symptoms.
Patients with hyperhomocysteinemia should be treated for the cause. Usually should quit smoking and alcohol, do not drink a lot of coffee, can eat spinach, lettuce, soybeans and other folate-rich foods.
