Homocysteine
is a sulfur-containing amino acid with a normal value of 5-15μmol/L. If it is only a simple homocysteine increase, it is caused by non-pathological factors such as alcoholism, drinking a lot of coffee, lack of exercise, etc. Because it is not accompanied by organic diseases, it is generally not life-threatening. However, homocysteine is used to screen for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral infarction, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, etc. Elevated levels mean an increased risk of these diseases, which may be life-threatening if further diagnosed by imaging.
