Early signs of bone tumors: A hard lump on the surface of the bone, with painful or painless symptoms. Early signs include pain or swelling of the bone and joints, often intensified at night, and not necessarily related to activity. Pain may be dull and persistent, or only when pressure is applied. Patients with bone tumors develop early pathological fractures or deformations, and may also show fever, weight loss, fatigue, and decreased mobility. Persistent and difficult to explain back pain early on, probably just back disease or back pain. One or more fractures early on, no apparent cause. After fracture treatment, check for sarcomas or osteoporosis. Numbness in distal extremities early on.
