What is an open fracture?

Fracture is very common in clinical practice. It is often seen in external force injury, which causes the interruption of fracture continuity. It is called fracture. When the fracture end is directly connected with the outside air, we call it open fracture. There are many reasons for open fracture. It can also be due to the fracture end directly piercing the skin and soft tissue around the fracture end. The fractured end communicates directly with the outside air. Then we divide open fractures into three types according to the severity of skin and soft tissue injury around open fractures. In clinical practice, it is called Gustilo classification. According to the severity of classification, we choose treatment scheme. For local skin and soft tissue injury, we can directly carry out fracture reduction and internal fixation. As skin and soft tissue injury is very serious, we need external fixation of fracture and internal fixation surgery.
