Tetanus is caused by wound infection with Clostridium tetani. Clinically, if the wound is relatively deep after the patient is injured, such as subcutaneous tissue or even deep muscle tissue, such a deep wound is easy to cause an anoxic environment, and Clostridium tetanus is an anaerobic bacterium that easily grows and reproduces in this wound environment. Clostridium tetanus can secrete bacterial toxins, thus causing clinical symptoms of tetanus infection, mainly related to muscle spasms. Therefore, patients with deep wounds must be injected with tetanus antitoxin to prevent tetanus infection.
