How long does DPT prevent tetanus?

DPT vaccine belongs to active immunity. After injection, the body can produce antibodies, which can prevent tetanus for 5-10 years. If there is a breach in the body within 5 years, there is no need to inject tetanus antitoxin, but the wound should be debrided to kill bacteria that may exist inside the wound, including tetanus bacilli. If more than 5 years, or even more than 10 years after trauma, be sure to inject tetanus antitoxin. Tetanus antitoxin is a passive immunity that is designed to fight against tetanus free toxin that may be present, prevent symptoms of tetanus infection, and even cause suffocation.
