Symptoms of tetanus infection

Dedicated to your well-being.
After tetanus infection, there may be muscle contractions due to tetanus toxin secreted by Clostridium tetani. At first, there may be mild fatigue and masticatory muscle weakness. Local muscle tightness may occur. Headache or dizziness may also be present. When typical symptoms appear, there are general muscle contractions. These contractions are intermittent and often intense spasms under muscle tension. The masseter muscles are affected first, and thus show a seizure of closed jaw; the facial expression muscles, which show a wry smile; the muscles of the limbs and trunk, which may be affected; the angular arch, hands contracted, and legs straightened; and finally the diaphragm, where the patient may show respiratory depression.
