Common causes of mitral valve insufficiency include rheumatic fever, ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and senile degenerative disease. Mild mitral insufficiency may be asymptomatic, while severe patients may experience palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, cough, etc.
