Wound management after dog bite

Healing hearts, one patient at a time.
After dog bite, the condition should be treated as soon as possible. If it is far away from the hospital, you can treat the wound yourself. The wound is shallow, you can wash it repeatedly with 20% soapy water, and then rinse it with a lot of cold boiled water or normal saline. Tap water is generally not recommended, because tap water may contain a lot of bacteria, causing wound contamination. If the wound is deep, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible for wound treatment, cleaning and disinfection. First, wash it repeatedly with 20% soapy water. After washing, rinse it with a large amount of normal saline. After rinsing, disinfect it with 70% alcohol, or 2%-2.5% iodophor or iodine. If the wound is small, there is no need to bandage and suture it. If the wound is deep, it should be bandaged or cleaned and sutured. After cleaning the wound, rabies vaccine injection should be given as soon as possible. If the wound is small, rabies vaccine injection can be given simply. If the wound is deep, it is recommended to inject rabies serum. For particularly large wounds, rabies serum injection can be carried out locally in the wound. If conditions permit, rabies serum antibody detection can be carried out after injection.
