Children with atrial septal defect can grow well

Healing hearts, one patient at a time.
Children with atrial septal defect can generally grow well.
If the newborn has atrial septal defect, it is located in the center of the atrial septal defect, without other serious cardiac structural and functional abnormalities. The atrial septal defect is small, less than 1 cm, generally can not grow well by itself. If the child has reached 1.5 years old or even 3 years old, the atrial septal defect is larger than 5mm, but through interventional surgery or thoracotomy, the atrial septal defect can heal.
If the atrial septal defect is small, only 3-4mm, and there is no abnormality in cardiac structure and function, the baby has no discomfort symptoms, follow-up, observation and regular monitoring of cardiac ultrasound are required.
