How long does a 5 minute contraction last?

Labor begins when contractions occur five minutes apart: nulliparous women may complete their cervix within eight to twelve hours and deliver their baby within half to two hours. Multiparous women may complete their cervix within six to eight hours and deliver their baby within minutes to an hour. However, the rate at which labor progresses varies significantly among women. Some women progress more slowly and may take longer to complete their cervix. However, the total time between regular uterine contractions and delivery should not exceed 24 hours, and if labor arrest is present, active management is required.
