Mechanical intestinal obstruction is a common acute abdomen. It develops rapidly and can even be fatal in severe cases. Patients usually need fasting and gastrointestinal decompression. Appropriate antibiotics can be selected if complicated with bacterial infection. If conservative treatment is not effective, surgery can be performed to remove the lesion.
