HFMD is caused by enterovirus infection, most commonly coxsackie virus A16 and EV71. In recent years, HFMD has increased due to coxsackie virus A6 and A10. Most severe HFMD is caused by EV71 and requires treatment. Common HFMD does not require special treatment. At this stage, no effective antiviral treatment has been found to shorten the course or relieve symptoms. Most HFMD is common and only symptomatic treatment is required, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen for fever. No other drugs are required. At this stage, there is no definite clinical evidence to support antiviral or immunomodulatory drugs. HFMD fever only requires antipyretic drugs and recovers within 1 week.
