Neonatal jaundice is considered pathological if it has one of the following characteristics: first, jaundice is present within 24 hours of birth; second, the severity of jaundice is deep, greater than 12.9 mg/dl in term infants and greater than 15 mg/dl in premature infants; third, jaundice progresses rapidly, rising by 5 mg/dl per day; fourth, jaundice lasts for a long time, greater than two weeks in term infants, greater than four weeks in premature infants, or is present again after jaundice has subsided. Fifth, serum conjugated bilirubin greater than two mg per deciliter, with any of them, can be diagnosed as pathological jaundice, pathological jaundice is the performance of the disease, need to be treated in time.
