Erysipelas is a scientific name for acute non-pyogenic inflammatory skin disease.

Acute non-pyogenic inflammatory skin disease is mainly caused by type B hemolytic streptococci infection. When the skin or mucous membrane is slightly damaged, bacteria can invade through the damaged place to cause infection. Typical manifestations are local skin redness, hot pain, clear boundaries, and may be accompanied by fever, chills and other systemic symptoms.

Erysipelas on the lower limbs are often associated with skin diseases such as tinea pedis and varicose veins on the lower limbs; erysipelas on the face may be associated with bad habits such as nose picking. Diagnosis is made by typical clinical manifestations and related examinations. Blood tests often show elevated white blood cell counts.

Acute non-purulent inflammatory skin disease, if not treated in time, may cause serious complications, such as lymphangitis, cellulitis, etc., and may even lead to life-threatening conditions such as sepsis. Therefore, erysipelas should be highly valued, diagnosed early and treated regularly.
