Acute pancreatitis urine amylase will rise

Restoring balance, one patient at a time.
Urine amylase is elevated in acute pancreatitis.
Urine amylase plays an important role in the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.
First, urine amylase usually rises later than blood amylase. Generally, it begins to rise 12~24 hours after the onset of the disease, but it lasts longer.
Second, the increase of urine amylase is not completely consistent with the degree of pancreatic disease. Although its elevated level can indicate pancreatic damage, it cannot be accurately judged by the value of urine amylase alone.
Third, urine amylase detection can be used as an auxiliary diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. However, its specificity is not 100%, and some other diseases may also lead to a slight increase of urine amylase.
Finally, urine amylase can be used as one of the indicators of dynamic observation when monitoring the changes of acute pancreatitis. With the improvement of the disease, urine amylase will gradually decrease to the normal range.
