The fibula is one of the two long bones of the lower limbs, located on the lateral side of the tibia.

What is fibula?

The fibula is about 1/6 of the total length of the lower leg and is arranged parallel to the tibia. The upper end of the fibula is connected to the lower end of the tibia to form the knee joint; the lower end is connected to the talus to form the ankle joint. The fibula is divided into four parts: the head, neck, body and lower end. The head is large and round, connecting the upper end of the tibia; the neck is thin, connecting the head and the body; the body is the main part of the fibula, triangular, with muscles attached to the surface; the lower end is thicker and triangular, connecting with the talus. Its main function is to support body weight, protect knee and ankle joints, participate in sports and so on.
