What is keratoconus?

Keratoconus is a congenital abnormality characterized by localized corneal conoid protrusion with thinning of corneal stroma in the protrusion area. Autosomal dominant or recessive inheritance may be accompanied by other congenital diseases, such as congenital cataract, iridia, retinitis pigmentosa, etc. Typical features are central or paracentral corneal dilation, which can be large or small, round or oval. Corneal stroma thinning is most pronounced at the tip of the cone, and conus protrusion can cause severe irregular astigmatism and high myopia, and vision is severely reduced.
