Causes of dacryocystitis

Building bridges to better health.
Dacryocystitis is a common disease in ophthalmology. It is divided into acute dacryocystitis and chronic dacryocystitis. The causes of acute dacryocystitis are different. Acute dacryocystitis is normally caused by infection in the conjunctiva sac. Bacteria enter the lacrimal sac through tear drainage, thus causing acute bacterial infection of the lacrimal sac. Chronic dacryocystitis is caused by inflammation or trauma of the nasolacrimal duct, resulting in scar tissue hyperplasia of the nasolacrimal duct. Therefore, obstruction occurs. Tears accumulate in the lacrimal sac for a long time, bacteria breed, and infection forms. Acute dacryocystitis needs to be treated with oral antibiotics to control infection, chronic dacryocystitis needs to be treated with antibiotics eye drops to alleviate inflammation, and then completely cured by lacrimal passage probing.
