What is the pain of colonoscopy and gastroscopy?

Guiding you to a healthier tomorrow.
Enteroscopy is generally more painful than gastroscopy. First of all, from the examination site, gastroscopy mainly enters the esophagus and stomach through the mouth, although there will be nausea, vomiting and other discomfort, but this process is relatively short; while enteroscopy needs to enter the rectum and colon through the anus, the length of the entire intestine is longer, and the examination time is often longer, which will bring more discomfort. Secondly, in the entry path, the sensitivity of pharynx is relatively low, after proper surface anesthesia, the uncomfortable degree of gastroscope entry can be tolerated; while the curvature of intestinal tract is more, enteroscopy may cause strong traction pain and abdominal distension during the advancement process. Furthermore, in terms of psychological feelings, people are relatively easy to accept some of the oral procedures, while for transanal colonoscopy, there may be greater psychological resistance and tension, thus further increasing the pain. However, both colonoscopy and gastroscopy are constantly improving and optimizing medical technology. Through better anesthesia methods and more advanced equipment, efforts are being made to reduce the pain of patients. Moreover, these examinations are of great significance for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and necessary examinations cannot be refused because of fear of pain. Before the examination, the patient can fully communicate with the doctor to understand the necessity and process of the examination, so as to better cooperate with the doctor to complete the examination.
