Can cervical erosion turn into cervical cancer

Cervical erosion itself does not directly transform into cervical cancer, but cervical erosion may be one of the early lesions of cervical cancer.

Cervical erosion is caused by cervical columnar epithelium and usually does not require treatment. However, cervical erosion may mask the symptoms of cervical cancer and make it difficult to detect cervical cancer early. If cervical erosion patients are also infected with high-risk HPV viruses, the risk of cervical precancerous lesions and cervical cancer increases.

Therefore, for cervical erosion patients, doctors usually recommend HPV testing and cervical cytology to rule out precancerous lesions and cervical cancer. If the test results are abnormal, further colposcopy and histopathology are needed to confirm the diagnosis.
