Lactose intolerance is detected by a hydrogen breath test. Oral lactose is administered before the test. The amount of lactose is selected according to the patient's age and weight. The breath test can be performed 30 minutes after taking it. If the hydrogen concentration in the breath is greater than 20pPM compared to the height, this condition can be judged as lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance should be differentiated from milk allergy and infectious enteritis.
