Is shingles and chickenpox a disease?

Herpes zoster and chickenpox are generally not the same disease.

Herpes zoster is mostly caused by varicella-zoster virus infection. varicella-zoster virus can move along nerves and affect the skin, causing clusters of blisters on one side of the body and painful symptoms. The pathogenic microorganisms of chickenpox and herpes zoster are the same, but chickenpox is a self-limited disease with lesions limited to the skin and no nerve damage. After recovery from chickenpox, herpes zoster may be caused if the varicella-zoster virus is activated in the body. Therefore, they are not the same disease.
