Subacute thyroiditis is caused by viral infection. After infection of the upper respiratory tract, the virus affects the thyroid gland, resulting in inflammation of the thyroid gland. The prominent clinical manifestation of the patient is pain in the thyroid area. Some patients may also show symptoms of fever. Of course, pain in the thyroid area can also radiate to the back of the neck, ears, occipital bones, etc. For subacute thyroiditis, the treatment of the patient depends mainly on the severity of the disease. If the severity is mild, it may be left untreated and the disease is self-limiting, while if the severity is severe, the pain is severe, or fever is present, oral nonsteroidal antipyretic analgesics may be given, or oral corticosteroids may also be given.
