Causes of high average erythrocyte hemoglobin content

High mean corpuscular hemoglobin may be caused by megaloblastic anemia or pernicious anemia, both of which interfere with the normal proliferation, division, and gradual increase in the size of red blood cells, resulting in high mean corpuscular hemoglobin.
