Plasma cell mastitis is a disease of mammary duct ectasia. Whether it worsens depends on treatment.

Mammary duct ectasia is a disease in which increased secretion from the mammary ducts causes expansion and accumulation of plasma cells around the ducts. If treated properly, the condition usually improves rapidly and recovers. If untreated or not treated properly, inflammation may spread and local tissue necrosis may occur.

Poor personal hygiene, bacteria and dirt accumulation in the breast area may cause the disease to worsen. Therefore, patients need to strengthen breast hygiene and choose loose, soft clothing.
