How to insert a male catheter

Restoring health, one step at a time.
Male indwelling urinary catheters are very widely used in clinical practice. Indwelling urinary catheters can drain urine and relieve bladder distension caused by acute urinary retention. The process of indwelling urinary catheters is as follows: The patient must first adopt a lying position and fully disinfect the perineum and glans. After disinfection, lay a sterile sheet, lubricate the urinary catheter with paraffin oil, hold the distal end of the urinary catheter with forceps in the right hand, lift the male penis with the left hand, and deliver the urinary catheter into the urethral orifice. During indwelling catheter, the operation must be gentle. Excessive force may cause urethral mucosa damage. After urine is seen, the catheter has entered the bladder. At this time, use a syringe to pump sterile saline to beat the balloon. Connect the distal end of the catheter to the drainage bag, gently pull the catheter to fix it in the bladder position, and indwelling is considered successful.
