Nursing care of urinary catheter and matters needing attention

Committed to your health journey.
Care of indwelling catheters is critical. Explain the purpose of indwelling catheters and methods of care to patients and family members to reduce the risk of infection. For indwelling catheters, there may be obstruction and catheter dirt, resulting in blockage. Pay attention to the patency of the catheter. Clean the area around the urethral orifice and the catheter surface every day to reduce the risk of infection. Encourage patients with indwelling urinary catheter to drink more water and replace urinary catheter regularly. If urine is found to be turbid, precipitated or crystallized, bladder flushing should be performed. It is recommended to wash the urinary catheter once a week. If the urinary catheter shows infection, replace it in time. The urinary catheter should not be twisted and discounted.
