What is brain injury sequela?

The sequelae of brain injury refer to the physical symptoms and signs that remain one year after the onset of the disease. The patient may show various symptoms and signs, depending on the site of injury. If the brain is injured, the patient may show hemiplegia, hemianopia, hemisensory impairment, and speech dysfunction. Mainly seen in patients with left brain injury, including aphasia and dysarthria. If the brain stem is damaged, the patient may show dizziness, balance disorder, ataxia, dysphagia, and drinking cough; if the damage is severe, the patient may also show consciousness disturbance, which may be manifested as coma, decerebrocortical state, and vegetative state; if severe, the patient may show urinary and fecal disturbance, which may be manifested as urinary and fecal retention and incontinence.
