What is brain demyelination?

Demyelinating disease is a group of diseases in which the white matter of the brain shows demyelination, and the destruction of myelin sheath causes a series of clinical manifestations. It has many causes, such as virus infection, immune mechanism disorder, poisoning, tumor, osmotic pressure change, etc., all of which can cause demyelinating disease. Common diseases such as multiple sclerosis, neuromylitis optica, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, and syndromes showing changes in osmotic pressure are common demyelinating diseases. In addition, some patients can also show demyelinating disease after carbon monoxide poisoning.
